Plant-Inspired Teachings on Living the Gaian Dream

Sat. morn ~ Human Flowering Creation-song Circle
In the tradition of shamanic medicine journeys, we communally sing alive (and breath, voice, chant, spirit-language . .) a fertile imaginal space, in which we will progress a plant-inspired creation story. This to allow the deeper currents of Creation to more fully activate the Gaian Dream, Our Dream, as it unfurls itself beneath the Sunlight of our Opening Hearts. This circle prepares us to more fully attune to, and embody the teachings to come . .

Sat. afternoon ~ What the Plants Teach
This is an introduction to indigenous consciousness, which includes discussions of the Gaian dharma, mythic archetypes, and perennial eco-cosmologies. We will also take a foray into history and consider how the whole-plant (WP) vs active-constituent (AC) models of herbal efficacy validate different medical ideologies, reflect different ways of knowing the world, and affirm different cultural ethos. We will look at the harmonious co-existence of these two models in an integrated herbalism, and how that is mirrored in efforts to bridge cultures and heal culture wars.

Sun. morn ~ Sylvapolitan Rising
This talk concerns the synergized human (sylvapolitan!) being birthed out of this 6th, and greatest, planetary age of extinction we are currently in. Guidance to this evolutionary destiny can be accessed thru the Gaian 'innernet' we all carry in our biological form. We will explore the 'way of the plants' in awakening us to this guidance, and the pathways of self-cultivation that flower from it.

Sun. afternoon ~ Teacher Plants and Ayahuasca
Abused soils and unhealthy ecosystems attract a variety of healing plants. We use these same plants, the blood-cleansers, balancers, and tonics to remedy our internal ecologies. When things get really out of hand, Nature sends in her Teacher plants (and fungi). Though all plants are teachers if related to as such, some specialize in dealing with the excesses of unconscious human behaviors. We will explore the world of Teacher plants, with emphasis on ayahuasca, a potent anti-body recently released from the Amazon rainforest.

Cultivating a Fairy Friendly Imagination ~~ time TBA
The imagination is the creative matrix of Nature. When we allow our creative power to be 'colonized' with the busy buzz of modernity, with all its disenchantments and human-centric concerns, we lose our ability to tune into the 'imaginal commons' shared by all the tribes of Creation. This workshop will describe this 'Nature Channel' of the imagination, point out the usual habits we have that corrode access to it, and provide suggestions and exercises to come into deeper resonance with this bandwidth of existence.

Welcome to the summer 2011 Human Flowering Song-Temple Tour ~

This summer, we embark on a 'Human Flowering Song-Temple Tour' thru the Cascadia eco-festival whirled. This is intended to ~

1) promote Singing Alive, now in its 5th year,
2) as a venue for Creation-song Circle offerings, and related discussion forums
3) as a gathering place for the songtribe cultural energies that run thru Singing Alive, and beyond . .

The HF Song Temple is a 20 x 20 ft peaked white yurt/dome, appointed with multiple ethnic rugs, 4 sacred element altars, and fairyesque decorative touches, that can be seen in the background of photo below the Tam Tam a Gucha Ram song. It offers itself as a focal place for sacred song circles, a homebase for the SA community, and like-hearted folks. The Song Temple tour is going to ~

Three talks ~~

1) Indigenous Consciousness ~ Friday 10.30-noon
Plants are an elder life form to the humans, and have worked to keep us attuned with the family of Nature thruout our rebellious adolescence as a species. They teach that to honor the body is to honor the earth, for it is thru the medium of the body that the land births ways to best relate to it, ways that nourish the healthful maturation of our species. We will explore indigeneity as a positive inbody experience, a birthright of everyone, how to claim it, and what is to be claimed. This includes the culture of Nature, the Gaian dharma (teachings of the planet), myths of re-membrance, performing the Dream, and eco-cosmologies of past and future.

2) From Cosmopolitan to Sylvapolitan ~ pro-active herbalist identities in transitional thymes ~ Saturday 9.45-11.15
The 'sylvapolitan' (sylva - 'of the forest / nature'; politan - 'citizen of . .' ) is a pro-active way of describing identity traits in synch with Gaian guidance that are often labeled via reactive terms such as 'counterculture', or 'alternative'. Our exploration of this concept begins with an understanding of the active constituent (pharmaceutical) model of herbal efficacy, and its application to the monocultural tendencies that define the modern 'cosmopolitan', a figure that, in industrial-growth societies, we are educated to aspire to. We then turn to the whole plant (ecological) model of herbal efficacy and apply its nourishing and inclusive principles to understand cultural holism, often associated with earth-based peoples. The alchemizing of these two models creates an 'integrated' herbalism. Likewise, as increasing numbers of humans awaken from their trance of separation, shed and surrender their old identities before the balancing forces of Nature, they become 'composted cosmopolitans' and may then rise anew as . . invigorated sylvapolitans! In such ways, these two models illuminate the modern cultural wars, and point towards their resolution in a revisioned ecology of self-cultivation practices and conscious community formation.

3) Tales from the Gaian Dreamtime Song Village ~ Sunday 9.45-11.15
A discussion of songs as living beings, the interdependence of humans and the songs that sing them, and the co-creative higher purposes of this union. We will touch on such topics as the imaginal commons, the poetic art of manifestation, recognizing the colonized imagination, the mission of the Gaian Dreamtime song village, and the care and feeding of songs that have migrated from there to the human realm. We will also do a short version of a 'Human Flowering Song Circle' to experientially illustrate our discussion.

7 - 9:45+ pm ~ Evening Song Circle. Singing Alive is a sacred song circle event, a gathering of the Songtribes. It birthed in the bosom of the Pacific NW eco-festivals, and so carries both the heritage and promise of next level Cascadia. Singing Alive exists to encourage the remembrance of a deep desire to sing from the heart, and provides resources in the form of, 1) songs, 2) the community to sing them, and 3) support for those of us who want to live the teachings, the sadhana, of the songs. It is part of a growing global 'song culture' which is knitting itself, and the world, together, thru the harmonics of communion with our collective spiritual heritage.
